Research on ultrasonic testing method of rotating component based on a 6-DOF robot

Abstract Some rotating components have the structural characteristics of variable thickness and curvature. The conventional ultrasonic testing is inappropriate for these because bad coupling too many uncertainties. In order to meet requirements high-volume, high-efficiency high-precision, corresponding automatic detection program proposed. A 6-DOF industrial robot used realize precise control transducer position posture, combines independent turntable complete spiral fast scan specimen. Based on multi-Gaussian beam model internal flat-bottom hole flaw scattering specimen, measurement established. system parameters, component material parameters surface are all introduced generate a series flaw-sizing curves. An accurate sizing method based DGS(Distance-Gain-Size)curve predicted by regular reflector scanning experiment results reference specimen show that minimum Ø 0.8mm artificial flat-bottom-hole in workpiece can be detected effectively, error less than 0.3mm equivalent.
